Filip Hráček / Flutter performance /
Hi, I’m Filip. I worked on the Dart and Flutter teams at Google between 2016 and 2021, and I've been involved in Flutter performance, specifically, for over 8 years now. I've helped a few Flutter startups out of performance-related quagmires, and I've done more than my share of education and outreach.
You may recognize my face from the official Flutter YouTube channel. Some of the veterans of Flutter development might remember my Flutter performance talk at Flutter Europe 2020 or maybe they've read my old Medium.com articles on performance testing and raster thread optimization. I still make occasional performance-related presentations today, though they’re few and far between.
I also work on a systems-heavy videogames in Flutter, which includes traditionally performance-heavy problems like 3D rendering, pathfinding, real-time audio, and marching squares, so I often have to push Flutter to performance extremes.
Since 2019, I've been working on ways to make performance optimization of Dart and Flutter as efficient and scientific as possible. I don’t want to just flail around trying to make things faster and hoping I’m squashing the right performance bugs. I want to be able to use hardware, software and statistics to hone in on the best ways to address performance problems, and to make Flutter apps as fast as they can be (which turns out to be — pretty darn fast). To that end, since June 2026, I've been working on a performance lab that helps me detect and analyze performance problems — as well as dispel myths about Flutter performance on my blog.
If you or your organization has a performance issue that you’d like me to look at, please get in touch. My company (Raindead) is well set up for this kind of consulting work (a device pool, private repos, NDAs, a Dun & Bradstreet number, EU VAT number, remote work, travel, you name it), with a lot of experience providing services to companies big and small, all over the world.
We can start with an email (filip@raindead.com), set up a video call, and go from there.
